Okay, shut up Sherlock. Shut up. The first time we met. The first time we met, you knew all about my sister, right?

Of all the things that break my heart in that phone call, it’s possible that the thing that breaks it the hardest is the way John says this.

He says it once.  ”The first time we met.”  Then he says it again, more emphatically.  ”The. First. Time. We. Met.”  And both times, you sense that he remembers that day, every detail, every minute of it, because it has so much significance in his mind.  We don’t always remember the first time we meet someone, someone who’s a casual friend, or even a close friend.  But John remember the first time he and Sherlock met.  It’s a Day of Great Import, it was a life-changing event.  And the way it’s phrased.  It isn’t “the day I met you,” it isn’t “when Stamford introduced us,” it’s “the first time we met.”  They met, for the first time, and it changed both of them.  John remembers, and he knows Sherlock does, too.

This has just made me have a really sad idea.

It’s like John is getting ready for Sherlock’s funeral/memorial service and when he looks in the mirror, he still sees him.

Almost as if it’s just another normal day.
